Carnival Nourishment: 13th Edition

By Joanne Hay

A wonderful round up of some very Nourishing writers. Thanks to all who contributed.

Spiritual Nourishment

Kathleen Gage presents Spirituality and work posted at Daily Awareness. Kathleen says “Our spiritual life is reflected in all we do. There is no separation. Everything we do either moves us closer to our spiritual core or further away. Building a business is most certainly an aspect of spiritual discipline. Yet, many people make a very definite separation of work and spirit. As with your spiritual practices, when you stick with your business journey, are not dissuaded, you are more likely to achieve your desired outcome. Often what can happen is when someone doesn’t see obvious results they tend to give up on whatever it is they are trying to achieve. Would you give up on your spiritual beliefs simply because not all is evident in the time frame you believe appropriate?” I couldn’t agree more Kathleen. Your post reminded me of that poem called Footprints. I remember it from Sunday school. The soul asks Jesus, when looking back on his life and sees footprints in the sand that at times (the hardest times) there was only one set. He asks, “why did you forsake me in my times of need”. Jesus says, “that was when I carried you”. I was only very small when I read this but I have always remembered. What do you think of the New Age idea that belief equals reality? That we only do not manifest what we want because we don’t spend enough time believing in it?

David B. Bohl presents Maintaining Decisional Integrity posted at Slow Down Fast Today!. Lots of great tips David. As for cheesecake being a compromise. There’s no need for tasty food to be bad for you. Try Sally Fallon’s all raw cheese cake. It’s definitely worth the effort.

Food Glorious Food

Rachel presents Biscuits and Pork Sausage Gravy posted at Bakedblog.com - a Mothers blog about baking, cooking, parenting, and enjoying all things in Life.. Mmmmmm. I hope that Pork is Pasture Fed and those biscuits are soaked for at least 7 hours.

New Old-Fashioned Gal presents To Be or Not To Be… A Vegetarian posted at Diary of a New Old-Fashioned Gal. If you do decide to return to eating meat, you’ve come to the right place. Many here have been down that path and have had to recover somewhat. Even if you just need to learn how to digest meat again, there’s many article and recipes that could help. Start with Recovering from Vegetarianism and I highly recommend starting with broth then moving onto well simmered brothy stews.

Natural Health

Joe Lasiter presents Endorphins: The Body’s Own Morphine posted at Natural Pain Relief.A quick list of things to do to feel good. I especially liked the more sex directive. It’s silly but we do sometimes need to be reminded. Of course, Joe, in order for the body to make these hormones it needs building blocks. I’d add cholesterol, Vit B5 and B6 and 12 (raw animal food) and zinc and other minerals, also in animal foods, especially bone broth. And a healthier body is more fun to have sex with. Yours is stronger, more supple, softer skinned and your lover’s breath and body odour smells good if they’re healthy. Yes? I also recommend Raw Liver for better health, especially for a good sex drive.

Diana Bertoldo presents Deep Breathing for the Health of it posted at Live Beyond Stress and Illness. This is a very well written and inspiring piece. Breath is a simple but very Nourishing tool to create health and wellbeing in your life. Now Diana, can you help us to remember to take a breath break every day?

Ellen Landauer presents Natural Alternative Health CoachingHealth Freedom Coaching: probiotics posted at Health Freedom Coaching. Ellen says, “Did you know that probiotics (beneficial bacteria for the digestive system) can do more than just helping digestion? They can help assimilate protein and minerals to build better muscle and bones, and even help you feel happier!” Great post Ellen. You mention issues with Soil Organisms. Can you tell us more, as Jordan Rubin’s work seems to have helped many people?

Parenting

Tracee Sioux presents Criticize Daughters’ DNA posted at So Sioux Me. When we criticize ourselves we criticize our children’s DNA. A look at what’s really wrong with My Beautiful Mommy, a children’s book about plastic surgery. When we nourish our own self image and self esteem we nourish our children’s too. A very important post. David Deida says the Feminine Power grows through Praise, Masculine Power grows through challenge or (healthy) criticism. That book sounds awful. Why do we need to change to be lovable anyway? BTW check out the competition we’re running about Feminine energy. You could win some lovely moon pads for you cycle.

Jessica Jones presents Our Children Are Our Best Teachers posted at Practical Nourishment. Jessica is one of my favourite writers in this month’s carnival. Not just because her blog is called Practical Nourishment. Jessica, have you checked out Connected Parenting by Pam Leo? Here’s a review.
It seems to be a totally ‘new’ way of looking at parenting that, funnily enough, mimics a lot of what Jean Liedloff discovered when she studied the Ancient Yucatan of South America. Love to know your thoughts.

Green Living

Karen Dowell presents Turning heaps not heads posted at Wiggly Wigglers. Thanks Karen. Your tips for looking after compost are easy to follow and thanks for the extra links. What do you think of those big barrels with a handle? Do they turn compost well or are they just an expensive gimmick?

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of Carnival of Nourishment using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

  1. Hello Joanne,

Just a quick note to let you know that Joe Lassiter was not the author of Endorphins: The Body’s Own Morphine at Natural Pain relief; that would be me. Joe does in fact write many wonderful posts on the site, but I will take credit for that one. Thanks for the comments here.

  2. Sorry Kathryn, the blog carnival software must have picked up Joe as the author. Thanks for your contribution. Tis a great post.
