Carnival of Nourishment: 12th Edition

By The Nourisher

A wonderful round up of some very Nourishing writers. Thanks to all who contributed.

Feminine Spiritual Power

Debra Moorhead presents The Answer to Every Question posted at Debra Moorhead.com. A very simple post that reminded me of Neale Donald Walsch’s “Conversation with God”. Thanks Debra, we here at Nourished Magazine like to make decisions based on one question also, very similar to yours, “What is the most Nourishing thing to do, say, think, create, right now.”

Green Living

Jessica Jones presents Creating a Healthier Home posted at Practical Nourishment. Thanks Jessica for such a well rounded article written from your own experience. The steps you took to change your life are inspiring and very Nourishing indeed. Great resources too.

Natural Health

Ellen Landauer presents Dandelion: Herbal Liver Cleanse, Better Digestion, and More! posted at Health Freedom Coaching, saying, “Naturally increase your happiness and health by getting nutrient-rich food right from nature, while being out in the sun and fresh air. Dandelion leaves and buds can be made into delicious dishes while supporting good health of liver, gallbladder and kidneys.” I loved the recipes Ellen, especially your capers recipe, although I’d probably lacto-ferment rather than use vinegar.

Susan presents 15 Simple Tips to Help You Live to 100 posted at Metabolism.com - Nutrition and Medical Blog.. Thanks Susan. My favourite tip is the one that says ’surround yourself with supportive people.’ Some gems there.

Tiffany Washko presents Natural Remedies for ADD and ADHD posted at Natural Family Living Blog. I always like your posts Tiffany. I’d like to add to this one, however the importance of nutrient dense food like animal fats, organ meats and cod liver oil to build healthy nervous system, digestive system and immunity. It’s tough to get these foods into behaviourly challenged children, but so very important. Serving burgers with ground organs hidden in them, cinnamon or orange flavoured cod liver oil is a start. And what kid doesn’t like deep fried foods. Just fry in lard or tallow instead of (incredibly damaging) vegetable oil will Nourish them with more fat soluble vitamins. I’d also do my best to avoid refined carbohydrates of any kind. Compromised nervous systems really don’t need the roller coaster ride.

Shaheen Lakhan presents Fighting Depression: 10 Step Do-It-Yourself Approach posted at GNIF Brain Blogger. This is a fabulous post by one who has successfully healed herself of depression. Your suggestion to exercise is very wise and always works for me. I would add to your wonderful list of tips to include large doses of butter and coconut oil as well as leaving the fat on your meat and eat Liver once a week.

Ellen Landauer presents Stress from Electromagnetic Fields: Natural Solutions posted at Health Freedom Coaching, saying, “Simple tips for transforming your home into a more relaxing and safe haven by minimizing electromagnetic field (EMF) pollution. Also, protective diet and supplements.” A thoroughly enjoyable and inspirational post Ellen. I have a dream to sleep with absolutely no electricity near my body. To this end we are building two yurts to live in, one for all the action of the day and one with no electricity for our family to sleep. I think it would make the world of difference since I spend so much time in front of the computer.

Joshua Seth presents Aspartame Dangers posted at Joshua Seth Blog, saying, “In my weight loss hypnosis sessions I repeatedly implant the suggestion to “make healthy food choices”, but how are you supposed to know what’s healthy when deadly poisons are labeled as sugar-free “diet food”?” I loved to see this curse driven from the shelves of our supermarkets. The only way this will happen, however, is for posts such as this to continue to circulate. The addictive nature of Aspartame is worrying but it’s great to hear people like you can help with hypnosis. Please anyone who has a loved one on Aspartame, send them to this post.

Alvaro Fernandez presents Sleep, Tetris, Memory and the Brain posted at SharpBrains, saying, “Why sleep is so important nourishment.” Funny, Alvaro, many a parent will agree with you about children waking and parents missing sleep. It’s like torture sometimes. Imagine how it must be for the child to wake in fright so many times each night. Dr Buckley has some very interesting comments about mother and child sleep cycles in this great article about co-sleeping. It seems babies and mums sleeping together sleep less deeply and come in and out of cycles together, rather than out of rhythm, as is the case when sleeping separately. Studies show mum’s who co-sleep breastfeed more often than they think they do. Sometimes they don’t even wake up. Just another example of the wisdom of our Ancestors.

Nutrition

Lovelyn presents The Importance of Eating Real Food posted at The Art of Balanced Living. It’s always quite disturbing the many posts I receive for this carnival about nutrition that I just can’t include because I can not call them Nourishing. This post is an exemption. Thank the Goddess for Michael Pollan.

Parenting

Gloria presents Role Model posted at Saddeyezz Scraps & Snaps. Lovely, just lovely. I hope this for all Parents.

Kevin Heath presents Benefits of Messy Play posted at Baby Development and Breastfeeding Resources. A great “How to” post about dealing with messy play. A little planning and both you and your child will be Nourished.

Natural Health

Anmol Mehta presents Free Online Yoga Videos Launched posted at Mastery of Meditation, Enlightenment & Kundalini Yoga, saying, “Free online yoga videos to help you achieve physical, emotional and mental mastery.” This has to be the best post of this month’s Carnival. Often when you read Free bla bla, you get suspicious. But check this site out. It’s truly Nourishing. Well done Anmol.

Spiritual Nourishment

David B. Bohl presents 5 Ways to Reconnect to Your Inner Child posted at Slow Down Fast Today!, saying, “I admit that there’s a part of me that thinks it’s a shame we humans have to grow up. For most of us, life is more about maintaining sanity than it is about joy. We schedule appointments to fill up our entire week and run like rats from one to the other.” I always love David’s posts an this month there’s two great ones.

David B. Bohl presents Where is the Love? Tips for Getting Back that Old Spark posted at Slow Down Fast Today!, saying, “Healthy, committed relationships can sometimes lose their luster because we get too comfortable and fall into old routines. We take each other for granted and put our partners on the Low Priority list. But it doesn’t have to be that way!” Great post David. I have another suggestion for you, gazing into each others eyes practise a rampage of appreciation. One tells the other what they appreciate about them and then it’s their turn. All the person who is receiving the appreciation is allowed to say is,”thankyou”. I’d also highly recommend David Deida’s work. Excellent.

Amy S Quinn presents 50 Tiny Health Habits that Can Save You Big Money (And Add Years) | NOEDb posted at NOEDb: Nursing Online Education Database. 50 is a large number of tips but they’re worth the read. Thanks Amy.

  1. Hey Joanne,

What an awesome job you have done with putting together this collection. It’s really great. Thanks also for including my free yoga videos — yup no catch, they really are free :-D.

    Stumbled/Dugg…

    Cheers,
    Anmol

    Hi Joanne,

Thanks so much for including my post about dandelions in this great selection of nourishing articles. Your idea about lacto-fermenting the dandelion buds is an interesting one that I will consider trying. I would be more than happy if you have a recipe for that, to put it on my blog as a comment or guest article!

Wishing you and my fellow nourishing bloggers the Best of Health!

  4. P.S. Just scrolled back up looking to read other articles and noticed you also put up my article about ‘Stress From Electromagnetic Fields: Natural Solutions. Joanne, you’ve got to be a very cool person - living in a yurt! Wow! Now that we turned off the circuit to the bedroom, I never put it on except to plug in the vacuum to clean the room! Feel somehow like I am detoxifying from electromagnetic stress now that I don’t sleep with that static…

I will be very interested to hear about your experience living in your new yurt(s).

  5. The 50 Tiny Habits article says to wear sunscreen. I never do, and don’t burn, in spite of living in a part of N. America that has nice hot sunny summers. I have fair skin and hair.

  6. Neither do I Anna May. I’ve met red haired, fair skinned people who completely stopped burning in the sun when they switched to a more traditional diet and stopped eating vegetable oil. It must have been such a boon for the pharmaceutical industry when the ozone layer story broke. Rubbing their hands with glee they began to blame the incredible rise in skin cancer on the sun. I have a hunch it’s due to vegetable oils and margarine taking the place of cholesterol in the diet, creating havoc with melanin and vitamin D production. What do you think.

  7. Glad to meet somebody else who isn’t a freak, sunwise! Just joking. I have always been under the impression that sugar, too much sugar, causes people to become too sensitive to the sun’s rays. Look what happens when you put plain sugar in a pot on the stove - it caramelizes. And with a lot of sugar in your blood, which feeds your skin…

When I was much younger and had a hell of a sugar habit, I got red from the sun, like everyone else. Not that I consume a lot of vegetable oil, either, I sure don’t. I do think it’s my low-sugar diet.
