Carnival of Nourishment: 4th edition

By Joanne Hay

Welcome to the August 2007 edition of Carnival of Nourishment. Welcome to you new submitters and thanks to you old ones for returning. It’s been a pleasure setting up this month. Enjoy.

Jimson Lee at SpeedEndurance shares his thoughts on carbs, fats and protein. He also has provided a calorie counter for all three (it’s not working right now however). Jimson may be intrigued to find that Weston A Price’s studies of non-industrialised peoples all over the world found that there was no hard and fast correlations for macro nutrients, different people ate very different ratios (even in the same continents). He did, however find correlations for Fat soluble vitamins and minerals. Vitamin A and D in primitive diets was 10 times more abundant and minerals 40 times. He also reported Swiss athletes being fed on bowls of fresh, raw cream from spring grass fed cows. Perhaps Kathy Pirtles, Performance without Pain, about traditional food, nutrition and athletes may be of use also.

Antoinette Boulay at medopedia says that Red Wine and Caffeine are good for you. As long as in moderation. I wonder what she would think about Colleen Huber’s Everything in Moderation a Recipe for Disaster.

Last month, Jolynn Braley from Fit Shack told us about High Fructose Corn Syrup and this month she’s letting us know what the heck High Fructose Corn Syrup Solids are. I didn’t even know they existed.

Anne-Marie at A Mama’s Rant shares her short email interview with Nordine Zouareg, a professional fitness coach former Mr. Universe about the mind and weightloss.

Fit Buff, shares how to overcome the pickiest eaters of all…KIDS! My favourite of his tips is not to worry too much, kids tastes change over time, they may not like broccoli now but they may later. That’s why one of our house rules - yes rules - is everyone must TASTE everything on the plate. I’m hoping it will instill in them respect for the cook and food as well as a sense of adventure with food. Who knows they may like brussel sprouts one day.

Amanda Rose at Rebuild from Depression give us her Eulogy Written on a Country Pasture. This post is about a controversial organic dairy that recently lost its certification — the first of its kind in the states that we know of. I live about ten miles from part of the herd and was working with a reporter on the story when they lost their certification. She’s included a video (the link to you tube works better for me) she took of the operation. Great work Amanda.

Amanda Herrington at Health Sundae lets us in on Kelloggs new promises to reduce calories in their cereals and stop advertising to kids. She’s given them a nice wrap for doing so. I wonder if she’d feel so good if she had read Sally Fallon’s article on extruded and puffed grains. Long story short, their nutritionally useless at best, cancer causing at worst.

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of nourishment using our carnival submission form. Past and future carnivals can be found on our blog carnival index page.

Joanne Hay, Editor of Nourished Magazine, Chief Nourisher and Mother of three is very grateful to live in Byron Bay and be able to share all she has learned about Nourishment. She has trained as an Acupuncturist (unfinished), Kinesiologist (finished) and parent (never finished). She serves the Weston A Price Foundation as a chapter leader. She loves sauerkraut, kangaroo tail stew, home made ice cream, her husband Wes and her kids Isaiah, Brynn and Ronin (in no particular order…well maybe ice cream first).
